Before Your Angioplasty at Waterbury Hospital
The night before your angioplasty You may have a regular evening meal. You may NOT eat or drink anything by mouth after midnight (12:00am) the night before your angioplasty.
Please let us know if you have allergies to Latex, X-ray Dye, Seafood, or Shellfish or to any medication.
If you are an insulin dependent diabetic, please check with your family doctor regarding how much insulin to take the morning of your angioplasty.
If you are on Coumadin, Glucophage or Lasix please speak to your cardiologist about when to STOP these medicines.
The morning of your angioplasty Take only the medications your cardiologist has told you to take with a small sip of water. If you are diabetic, please check your blood sugar before coming to the hospital. Your nurse will want to know the results.
When brushing your teeth, do not swallow the rinse water.
You may use our Valet Parking service on the morning of your surgery. Simply pull up to the main entrance and your car will be parked for you. Once you enter the hospital, you will report to the Reed Cardiology Department. The Reed Cardiology Department is located on the same level as the hospital lobby (Ground Floor) in the North End of the building. The Reception Desk or a volunteer greeter will be happy to assist you with directions.
Your family/friends may stay with you until you are taken to the Catheterization Laboratory for your procedure. There is a family waiting area outside the Catheterization Laboratory. The nurse who will be caring for you during your procedure will introduce her/himself to your family and answer any questions.
If your family/friends need to leave the hospital during your surgery, they should provide a phone number where they can be contacted to your nurse.
